The Glover Report: Odell’s Reunion 2015 at Patapsco Arena: “You’ll Know If You Belong”

The Odell's Reunion 2015
Patapsco Arena

By Doni Glover, Publisher

(BALTIMORE – October 18, 2015) – Will Franklin, Anthony Faust, WOLB 1010 AM’s Larry Young and a host of others, including insurance man Manny Moore, convened at Patapsco Arena last night for an evening of classic Baltimore nightlife.

I, too, was one of the many Baltimoreans who traversed North Avenue back in the day for a spot inside of Baltimore’s number one dance house. And before I go off celebrating, a thought evokes for those who are no longer with us – who, too, enjoyed Odell’s. Names like Donald Bentley come to mind. Best friend to my buddy, David Miller, Bentley died up the street from the club one late night.

As for the bright side, I can tell you unequivocally without a doubt, if you missed last night’s get-together, then you truly missed a treat. Guess you’re going to have to wait until next year. While I don’t hit the streets much any more, I am so very happy I made it to the party last night. It was a classic!

The woman of honor was none other than Sheila Dixon, and in case you missed it, she is running for mayor. She has a lot of work to do, and while few are sure of who will challenge her, let it be clear: They had better bring their lunch box. If you’re trying to avert of Dixon victory, you have an army waiting for you.

DJ Tanz was the man with the music as he did his thing. April Watts rocked the mic. Our beloved DC daughter hosted with the moral support of my elementary school schoolmate, Reggie Reg. Another schoolmate, William Fitzgerald White, was one of many, many people who came out for a night of fun and laughter. It was truly a representation of the best of Baltimore.

The news always reports the bad in Baltimore. The news also misses a lot of the real Baltimore, probably because a lot of the people reporting the news did not grow up here. Therefore, they lack the a wholesome understanding that Baltimore is so much more than what they typically report.

People from Baltimore know how much love is really in the hearts of the people of Baltimore. I can truly say that when the people are behind you, you haven’t a worry in the world. We have seen it all. We have seen countless attempts of those who would thwart the love that is deep in our hearts. And we have seen them fail. Every now and then we might make a mistake, but as a whole, I am one of those proud Baltimoreans who is product of this city … just like many of you.

Congratulations to all of those people who made last night a success and who continually contribute to the well-being of this city.
