The Glover Report: National Mall Packed for 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March: A Personal Pilgrimage

20th Anniversary
Million Man March
Washington, D.C.

By Doni Glover, Publisher

(WASHINGTON - October 10, 2015) - At the tender age of 50, I am increasingly learning how to manage my time. After all, my dad always said that “it is a very valuable commodity and it is worth dollars and cents.” And so, on this gorgeous October morning, it became obvious that despite work that needs to be done, I had better high-tail it down to Washington, D.C. to the National Mall. Not sure how I could forgive myself had I not.

Truth be told, there was no way I could not pause from everything to go back to that place where I made some promises to myself 20 years ago. Quite frankly, I’m proud to have made good on most of those promises. Having played with death and destruction for years, I know that I am truly a miracle and that the good Lord spared me for a reason.

Thus, for the past 20 years, I have been working to do what Minister Louis Farrakhan instructed to all of the men in attendance that glorious day. He told us to return to our respective communities and work to make a positive difference.

So, just to be at today’s march alone was truly a blessing. And then, to see the next generation enter the fold. There are no words to describe how proud I am of the human race, including those of the darker hue. I saw all races, all ages, from all over the country pour into DC for another historic day.

On my way out, I walked pass a very youthful group of young black men from Cleveland heading into the Mall. I know they were from Cleveland because they proudly proclaimed it – not in a negative way, but in a way that demonstrated that they, too, had made it to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 for the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March with the theme: Justice or Else?

I believe God touched this nation today with a beautiful demonstration of love, peace, and humanity, and I was truly, truly honored to be there. To God … be the glory!
